What Jets coach said about Dalvin Cook’s ‘meet and greet’ at training camp

Dalvin Cook visited the Jets on Sunday as they continued training camp, but coach Robert Saleh remained tight-lipped about the possibility of signing the running back.

Cook was released by the Vikings in June and remains a free agent. He watched Sunday’s practice from the sidelines and was seen talking to some members of the organization.

It’s unclear what will happen from here. Saleh called Cook’s visit a “meet and greet” and revealed he had “no expectation” for when the RB could make a decision about his future.

“Call it a meet and greet. I don’t know about recruiting. I think it’s more to just get a feel and make the decision for your family,” Saleh told reporters after practice. “I’m sure he’s got a lot of questions he wants to ask and hopefully we get a chance to sit down and I can answer any questions he might have.”

Sunday’s practice was open to the public, so Saleh said he didn’t interact with Cook a whole lot, but it was “good say hello.

The Jets were the first team Cook visited this offseason. The Dolphins have also been connected to him, as have the Patriots. A visit is possible with New England, a source confirmed to MassLive’s Mark Daniels, and Cook mentioned on “CBS Sports HQ” that Miami is “right there in the mix” with the Jets.

It’s possible Cook signs with the Dolphins if he and the Jets don’t work out. Saleh emphasized that if they do bring Cook in, it’s because it would be the best for the team, not to spite a division rival.

“We’re focused on us and how can we make ourselves better, how does this all fit,” Saleh told reporters. “And if you check the box of making yourself better, if it’s the right way and we’re doing what’s best for the organization then you make the right decision. But to make decisions to spite another team, you’re just asking for it.”
