Westfield Fire Chief Egloff reminds residents of open burning ban

WESTFIELD – With the region in a drought, coupled with low humidity and high winds, and the chance a small outdoor fire could spread quickly, the fire chiefs for Westfield and Southwick are reminding residents there could be consequences for disregarding the statewide ban on outdoor burning.

“Is it really worth the hundred bucks to get caught burning,” said Westfield Fire Department Chief Patrick Egloff on Tuesday.

That is the fine Westfield Fire Department will issue to anyone caught openly burning leaves or brush, Egloff said.
