WESTFIELD — The Athenaeum would be willing to preserve and display items from the Atwater mansion after it is torn down to make way for a new police station, library board member Linda Saltus told the Westfield Historical Commission on Monday.
The Commission has begun the process of identifying historical items to be saved in the 6 Union St. house, also known as the former Blessed Sacrament rectory, by requesting a Certificate of Historical Review, and by hosting a public hearing on Sept. 23.
