Western Mass mayors discuss challenges, solutions to housing crisis

SPRINGFIELD — A $6.2 billion housing bill that is designed to ease the housing crunch will be helpful, but also bring unintended consequences causing other problems, local mayors said.

Five area mayors joined with state Housing Secretary Edward M. Augustus to talk about solutions to the housing crisis which is increasing homelessness, pushing young professionals out of state where homebuying is more affordable and leaving senior citizens with no ability to downsize.
