It turns out Massachusetts humans aren’t the only ones trying to beat the summer heat – neighborhood black bears appear to be doing the same.
A Ring camera video taken submitted to MassLive by Pembroke resident Hannah Rose Doucette captured a black bear taking a dip in her backyard pool on Sunday afternoon, July 23.
The video, which Doucette posted to her Facebook, shows the bear climbing into the pool before swimming across and hopping out. Doucette caption the video, “We just had a visitor cool off in our pool!”
While black bears are common in Western and Central Massachusetts, the species is expanding in Eastern Massachusetts, according to the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife.
Last month, a bear sighting closed all Arlington schools for an hour while another bear, named Buster, was routinely spotted in communities around the South Shore.
While Mahoney did not provide a name for the bear who invited itself over for its own private pool party, she did give it an opportunity to cool off before dangerously-high temperatures invade the Commonwealth later this week.
