Poland was in a very different boat at Euro 2020 as it came in last in its group with its best result coming in a 1-1 draw with Spain. A pair of one goal losses stopped the squad from earning more than one point in Group Stage. This time around it will see Austria and France after its opening match.

For both Poland and the Netherlands, Sunday will be their first time on the brand new pitch that was laid down at Volksparkstadion.

According to a story from the Associated Press, UEFA is trying to protect the new grass that was put in after home club Hamburger finished its Bundesliga season.

However, the Dutch side didn’t think they were being kept off the pitch because it was so pristine and needed to be preserved, but because it was not up to par.

“We are not allowed to train [at Volksparkstadion] either, because of the bad quality of the pitch,” Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman said.

Team captain Virgil van Dijk and Poland’s captain Piotr Zieliński had differing opinions on the surface as van Dijk said, “it’s not very good,”and Zieliński said, “it’s not that bad.”

This comes in the aftermath of Switzerland filing an official complaint about the training surface.
