Masconomet travels to face the Newburyport Clippers in a season-opening nonleague matchup. Last season’s head-to-head saw Masco edge visiting Newburyport 27-20, part of a 7-3 campaign that ended with a Division 3 playoff berth. Masconomet is led by senior standout Lucas Magnifico, an imposing 6-foot-4, 215-pound playmaker who could pose problems for the Clippers on both sides of scrimmage. Newburyport is coming off a 4-7 season that included a run to the Division 5 quarterfinals. The Clippers tout a trio of captains in QB/DB Jack Miller, senior Paul Suozzo and junior TJ Skiba, who pulls double duty as running back and linebacker. Opening kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. CT on Friday, September 5 with a live TV broadcast on NFHS Network.
