Vintage Photos: A look at Chuck E. Cheese over the years

The last few remaining Chuck E. Cheese animatronics in Massachusetts are fading as the children’s arcade is getting upgrades nationwide.

Instead of the Chuck E. Cheese animatronic band, called Munch’s Make Believe Band, there will be a full-sized video wall at the Methuen location on July 8, which has been a common upgrade at Chuck E. Cheese locations across the U.S.

Chuck E. Cheese has six Massachusetts locations in Lowell, Everett, Worcester, Methuen, Attleboro and North Dartmouth.

The only two that still have animatronics of just Chuck E. are Everett and Methuen. Neither store ever had a full band, but they’ve always had the single animatronic, District Technical Manager for CEC Entertainment Dana O’Hare told MassLive. The only other Chuck E. Cheese in New England with an animatronic is in Warwick, Rhode Island.

The Everett location was renovated to include trampolines in the spring. They told MassLive they have no knowledge of the animatronic being removed.

But as the nostalgic look of Chuck E. Cheese changes to fit the needs of children today, MassLive takes a look back at Chuck E. Cheese over the years. Click here for the full gallery.
