‘Very large’ snake got inside Massachusetts home when owner let in dog

A Massachusetts homeowner left their door open for their dog and an “uninvited guest” slithered inside.

Orleans police had to help the homeowner remove the “very large” snake from the closet, where the snake ended up.

“Not something you see every day in Orleans,” the police department wrote on Facebook.

Police said the snake was a Black Racer, which isn’t venomous “but definitely not an ideal uninvited guest.” It can also be mistaken for the venomous water moccasin.

Orleans police had to help the homeowner remove the “very large” snake from the closet, where the snake ended up.

“People who mistake black racers with their venomous cousin may not think twice to confirm whether the species is harmful or not before taking extreme action,” the National Park Service said. “If you come across a snake in the wild and are not sure what species it is, the best course of action is to leave it alone!”

Police put the snake in a cooler and released it in the woods.
