BOSTON — To say it has been a lost season, to this point, for Red Sox second baseman Vaughn Grissom would a major understatement.
Grissom, the prized acquisition of the offseason trade that send Chris Sale to Atlanta, has missed a total of 64 games due to a pair of hamstring strains, one suffered during the winter and another in early June. And when he was on the field, Grissom failed to produce at the plate, hitting just .148 (12-for-81) with a single extra-base hit and three RBIs in 23 games. The talented 23-year-old was supposed to emerge as Boston’s second baseman of the future in 2024; instead he has become an afterthought on a surging team.
