Vape detectors at Westfield schools may be tamping down on e-cigarette use

WESTFIELD — Westfield High School Principal Charles Jendrysik said more students than he’d like are vaping, though some evidence points to a reduction in e-cigarette use.

“We recognize that this is something that many of our students are struggling with,” he said.

At Westfield Middle School, principal Jesse McMillan said he sees electronic cigarette use by both seventh and eighth graders, who tend to do it in isolation, not as a social activity with other students. They see it as a tool for mental health, he said.
