Valley Blue Sox earn seven-inning tie against Bristol Blues to remain atop division

The Valley Blue Sox have tied the Bristol Blues 3-3 in a game that was called prematurely due to left-field light malfunctions at the Blues’ home ballpark Muzzy Field.

After their second tie with Bristol, Valley are now 19-16-2 and hold a one-game lead over the Danbury Westerners (19-18) and Blues (16-15-4) in the West Division.

Kurt Thomas started the game for the Blue Sox and pitched four innings while allowing three runs.

The Blues got on the board following an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning.

Valley took the lead after scoring three runs in the top of the fourth. Eliot Dix led off the inning with a walk, and AJ Guerrero hit an RBI double to bring him around third. Guerrero went 2-for-4 on the night with an RBI.

Matt Bergevin hit an RBI single to score Guerrero; then Collier Cranford hit into an RBI fielder’s choice to score Bergevin.

Bristol tied the game at three in the bottom of the fourth following a walk with the bases loaded and an RBI fielder’s choice.

Harrison Durow took over for Thomas in the bottom of the fifth inning, pitching 1.2 scoreless innings while striking out three batters.

Terry Murray relieved Durow with two outs in the bottom of the sixth, pitching 1.1 scoreless innings with two strikeouts.

AJ Guerrero led off the top of the eighth inning with a single that got lost in the sky due to the left field lights being out at Muzzy Field.

The umpires ultimately decided to call the game, resulting in the Blues’ fourth tie of the season, the second tie in three games, due to light troubles at their home ballpark.

The Blue Sox will return home Saturday night to face the North Adams SteepleCats at 6:35 p.m.
