UMass women’s basketball closes the gap late, but falls to Northeastern

Despite trailing the entire second half, UMass women’s basketball closed the gap late but could not complete the comeback against Northeastern, losing 78-74 on Friday.

The two teams traded the lead throughout the first quarter, but once Northeastern took the lead, the Huskies never trailed again. Northeastern had a 42-36 lead at the half and managed to push the lead out to 11 heading into the final quarter.

UMass did well early in the fourth to cut the deficit and get back into the game, but Northeastern rode the storm and regained its control until the final minute. UMass capitalized in the fourth, but it was not enough to change the result.

UMass (1-1) will hit the road for the Minutewomen’s next game against the University of Maine on Sunday, Nov. 12 p.m. at 1:00 p.m.
