Tropical Storm Debby arrives in Mass. Friday. Here’s what to expect

Tropical Storm Debby is expected to dump up to 15 inches of rain in some parts of the Carolinas on Wednesday as it makes its way up the East Coast. But Massachusetts, forecasters say, will likely be spared the worst of the impacts of the storm and its remnants.

National Weather Service forecasters wrote Wednesday morning that the path of the storm’s remnants had continued to shift west, through central Pennsylvania and New York into Northern New England. That westward shift, plus the increased speed of the storm, has prompted a “pretty substantial reduction” in forecasted rainfall amounts for Massachusetts and other parts of New England, according to the weather service.
