After being fired, a disgruntled employee is giving out a discount code to people on TikTok for revenge to the store.
But it’s all a lie, the Better Business Bureau (BBB) is warning.
“If you fall for this scam, you won’t receive the high-quality jewelry you thought you ordered. You may get cheaply made knockoffs – or nothing at all,” the BBB said. “Also, you’ll be out any money you spent on ‘shipping’ too.”
Although the scam involves a jewelry store, the BBB said it could easily be adapted for other high-cost items like electronics or designer handbags.
There are a few red flags with the same.
One customer reported that the shipping cost increases disproportionately as you adding things to your cart.
“However, this still seems like a ‘deal’ because you are getting a 100% discount on (faux) jewelry that costs $100-200,” they said.
There’s also no cancellation mechanism on their website or order confirmation email, no social media, no address, and no phone number. The only way to contact them is through email.
Hundred of scams have been reported to the BBB from TikTok. It suggests being wearying of anything too good to be true, only shop with reputable companies and use a credit card when buying things online.
