This Massachusetts house is the oldest home on the market

Massachusetts is home to the oldest house on the market in the U.S. as of Wednesday, according to Zillow and Massachusetts Historical Commission.

Located at 125 County Road, Plympton, this 3-bedroom, 2-bath saltbox style house is rich with history, clocking in at over three centuries old.

It’s unclear exactly when the house was built. Zillow reports the home was built in 1669, while the Massachusetts Cultural Resource Information System reports it was built around 1691.

It is located in Plympton’s historic district and officially known as the “Stephen Bryant house.”

“It is a pilgrim house,” Realtor, Jennifer Macdonald said. “It’s the most in-tact one I’ve ever seen.”

She said the current owners “meticulously” restored and preserved the entire home for the past 31 years, hiding signs of light switches, outlets and even the microwave, though it has modern capabilities.

“It really feels like you’re stepping back in time,” Macdonald said.

She added she has had the oldest house for sale in the country twice before, and the 125 County Road, house is the most preserved — featuring “all the original bones,” from the hatch marks from the original carpenter to the drift paneling on every wall.

The single-family home was expanded to its present five-bay in 1703 by Dr. Caleb Loring, the listing states. It’s now 2,503 square feet and sits on two acres of land.

Listed for $800,000, it features leaded glass windows, pine floors, antique and custom replica windows, exposed hand hewn beams, vaulted custom kitchen, custom wains coating and more.
