This beloved Mass. breakfast cafe closes after 17 ‘successful’ years

A go-to breakfast spot for locals in and around Wilmington has closed after more than a dozen years.

As Good As It Gets Cafe closed on Saturday, July 6 “after 17 successful years,” the restaurant wrote on Facebook.

“The current owners have chosen to retire, and close the restaurant at this time,” the post reads.

“We are sad that we can’t have a proper goodbye as we close down, but we will keep you all in our memories going forward,” it continued. “As we like to say, our customers and staff are AS GOOD AS IT GETS. Best wishes, Your As Good As It Gets Family.”

As Good As It Gets opened in Wilmington in 2007, according to the restaurant’s Yelp page.

The cafe served breakfast and lunch seven days a week and was featured on Phantom Gourmet in 2014.

The show highlighted several of the cafe’s dishes like crab cake eggs Benedict, Wilmington Whopper breakfast sandwich and the Meatloaf Mac Omelette.

“We loved it here,” one person commented on the restaurant’s post. “Always our local go to! So sad to hear you have closed. Wishing you the best in retirement.”

“My kids are going to miss your fun pancakes so much,” another Facebook comment reads. “So sad to be losing another amazing restaurant in Wilmington.”

As Good As It Gets closure comes about a week after Cucina LaRosa, also in Wilmington, closed on Friday, June 27.

LaRosa’s said in a Facebook post that “rising costs, both in payroll and food supplies, combined with the challenges of managing a demanding business in our later years” led the owners to close the restaurant.

As Good As It Gets had another location in Acton that also closed in May 2023, according to Wicked Local. The address for the Wilmington location was 35 Lowell St.
