Thirteen people were injured Thursday morning in a crash between a passenger van and a car on Route 123 in Hanover, according to police and firefighters.
The crash at the intersection with Juniper Lane was reported to authorities shortly after 11:30 a.m., Hanover police and firefighters said in a press release. First responders found the passenger van on its side and a four-door sedan nearby — both with significant damage.
Due to the number of people involved in the crash, the Hanover Fire Department declared a Level 1 mass casualty event, police and firefighters said. Nine ambulances from seven different fire departments ultimately responded to the scene.
Thirteen patients were triaged, treated and taken to local hospitals following the crash, police and firefighters said. It is unclear how badly they were injured.
Hanover police are still investigating what caused the crash, police and firefighters said. No further information has been released.
