
Eight members of the Worcester Police Department (WPD) took home more money in 2024 than Police Chief Paul Saucier, according to the city’s payroll data.
Saucier, the city’s interim chief who officially became police chief on March 1, earned $272,966 in total gross pay in 2024, per the payroll data.
In comparison, Police Captains Matthew D’Andrea, Aaron Theodoss, Christopher Curtis and Jeremiah O’Rourke, Police Lieutenants Mark J. Sawyer, Daniel R. Fallon and Joseph J. Scampini and Deputy Police Chief Carl J. Supernor all earned higher total gross pays than Saucier last year.
D’Andrea earned a total gross pay of $300,477, Theodoss earned $294,675, Curtis earned $290,854, O’Rourke earned $281.479, Sawyer earned $281,077, Fallon earned $278,836, Supernor earned $277,714 and Scampini earned $274,364, according to the database.
While Saucier’s base pay was higher than any of those officers, they all surpassed him based on detail pay and overtime.
Saucier received $263,106 in regular pay and received $9,860 in adjusted/retroactive/other payments, according to payroll data. Added together, Saucier’s regular pay and other payments equal $272,966 — his total gross pay.
In comparison, the regular pay for the eight WPD employees ranged from $134,051 to $189,465, according to the payroll data.
All eight employees collected detail pay in 2024 while six collected overtime pay.
Saucier had no pay details or payments for overtime per the data.
The highest amount of detail pay among the eight employees was $121,414 — which was earned by Sawyer. The employee who earned the second highest detail pay among the eight was Fallon, who collected $113,025. The remaining six employees earned detail pay amounts ranging from $57,888 to $97,760, according to the data.
The six employees who earned overtime pay in 2024 were D’Andrea, Theodoss, Curtis, O’Rourke, Fallon and Scampini, with D’Andrea collecting the most overtime pay ($62,609) and Scampini earning the second highest amount of the six.($37,499)
The employees also had higher adjustment/retroactive/other payments compared to Saucier, with the lowest being $21,394 earned by Supernor and the highest being $33,853 earned by Scampini.
The city’s highest earners
D’Andrea, Theodoss and Curtis were the second, third and fourth highest earners in 2024 — earning more than the fifth highest earner, Worcester Public Schools Superintendent Rachel Monárrez. Monárrez collected a total gross pay of $287,434 in 2024, a decrease from 2023, when she earned $294,402. The city employee who had the largest total gross pay in 2024, however, was City Manager Eric D. Batista, earning $332,289.
The eight members of the WPD were listed among the 10 city employees who earned the largest sums of total gross pay last year. Saucier was the 11th-highest earner.
