As Massachusetts grapples with an extended stretch of dry weather, “any rain is good rain,” National Weather Service forecasters say. But the Bay State didn’t cash in on the refreshing rain that fell overnight into Monday, leaving the fire risk high.
Rainfall totals in most areas of the state did not exceed 0.2 inches and forecasters say the showers should end by around 8 a.m., giving way to a mild day.
Temperatures are expected to reach around 65 degrees on Monday. As the week progresses, Massachusetts will be in for a “temperature roller coaster,” forecasters wrote.
By Wednesday, temperatures are expected to fall to the mid-40s before climbing back up to the mid-50s over the weekend. It will likely remain dry for the rest of the week — the next chance for rainfall is on Friday.
The limited rainfall received Monday is likely to evaporate quickly and forecasters say increased fire weather concerns will return on Tuesday. Even with the rain, Massachusetts is subject to a special weather statement warning of the elevated risk of fire, particularly in areas classified as in a major drought.
