Taxes, salaries, pollution among Westfield council candidates’ ‘hot buttons’

WESTFIELD — Candidates in the 10-way race for at-large seats on the City Council displayed a variety of perspectives when asked to name their “hot-button issues” in recent televised interviews on Westfield Community Programming and discussions with The Westfield News.

The candidates, which include seven current councilors and three challengers, are running for seven available seats with two-year terms in the Nov. 7 city election. Several of the candidates were interviewed on air by Peter Cowles, Ken Stomski and Tina Gorman, and The Westfield News reached out to those who were not available to tape on-air segments.

Incumbent James Adams said public safety, the Police Department and moving the city forward are important things that jump out for him. He also believes the city needs to hire an advancement officer.
