WESTFIELD — The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Westfield was one of 100 organizations that received a grant recently from the Department of Conservation and Recreation to start up a new Summer Nights sports and recreation program for middle and high school youth.
Club Athletic Director Frank Hegarty said 80 youth signed up for Summer Nights basketball, with 50 to 55 regularly attending the new program funded by the DCR grant of $6,000. The program, which runs Tuesdays and Thursdays through Aug. 16, puts an emphasis on skills, drills, challenges and competition. It also serves dinner to all participants.
