State DPU to host public hearing Thursday at WSU about battery storage project

WESTFIELD – Because the company proposing to build a battery energy storage system on Medeiros Way has filed a petition with the state’s Department of Public Utilities in September to exempt it from following the city’s zoning regulations, the DPU has scheduled a public hearing on the request that will be held at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 5 at Westfield State University.

Jupiter Power LLC, announced the project, it calls Streamfield Energy Storage, in 2023 on two parcels of land off Medeiros Way, one of which is a few hundred feet east of Westfield Auto & Truck Center, and the other, which is across the road on a property that is just east of the Bennett Road used by C&S Wholesale Grocers.

Both properties are zoned Industrial A, which allows a wide range of industrial and business uses.
