Sprinkles, games & lobster rolls: What’s inside Boston’s Museum of Ice Cream

Sweet treats, games and trivia can be found in every room of the Museum of Ice Cream in Boston.

The museum opened on Saturday, Dec. 14, joining its other locations in New York City, Austin, Chicago, Miami and Singapore.

MOIC Boston brought the brand’s most popular exhibits to Boston’s Seaport District.

These exhibits include the popular Sprinkle Pool, where guests can ride down a slide into a pool of giant plastic sprinkles.

Other installations are The Cookie Living Room — a living room entirely crafted from cookie motifs; the Hall of Freezers — a room filled with 24 doors with treats behind each one, and Creamliner — a figurative airline that serves guests soft serve while they travel on an airplane.

Specific to the Boston museum is FunWay Park, which is inspired by Boston’s beloved baseball park. The space is decked out in several baseball-themed carnival games such as pinball and Skee-Ball.

Visitors can snag a cup of popcorn cotton candy on their way out as well.

MOIC Boston also offers exclusive ice cream flavors through the museum’s partnership with Friendly’s. One of these flavors pays homage to a Boston staple: the lobster roll.

The “Lobstah Ice Cream,” which comes with a small roll, can be found in the Sensory Lab where visitors are encouraged to design their own ice cream flavor.

From there, you can usher into the Diner and grab a drink at the bar. Options range from fruity cocktails to milkshakes.

MOIC Boston is located at 121 Seaport Blvd. The museum is open Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Friday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and on Monday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Weekday tickets start at $25, while weekend tickets start at $33. Children under age 2 get in for free. Tickets can be purchased online.
