CHARLOTTE — With over half a dozen starters missing on offense for Virginia Tech on Friday night against Minnesota in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl, the Hokies needed younger players to step up.
Redshirt freshman and former Springfield Central star quarterback Pop Watson showcased his potential in the team’s win over Virginia in November and was poised to be one of those players against the Golden Gophers.
