Springfield settles first of nine contracts with police unions

SPRINGFIELD – New contracts with Springfield police sergeants, lieutenants and captains will provide pay increases as well as satisfy unresolved issues in the federal consent decree that calls for police department reforms.

The Springfield Police Supervisors Association ratified the contracts, which will run retroactively from July through June 2028, on Sept. 19. The City Council gave its final approval last week in a 13-0 vote.

The contracts are broken up as a one-year pact for fiscal year 2025 followed by a three-year agreement. They cover 71 employees, said William Mahoney, the city’s human resource director.
