SPRINGFIELD — The School Committee voted to extend the start date of the new superintendent to July 22 to give the body more time to negotiate her contract.
The School Committee selected Sonia Dinnall as its new superintendent on May 30 pending the signing of a new contract. Dinnall, who will be the first woman to serve as superintendent, accepted the position the same night.
While the search for a new superintendent was filled with strife and disagreements that caused a majority of members to boycott one meeting and walk out of another, the delay is not being caused by controversy, said School Committee member Barbara Gresham.
