SPRINGFIELD — A local nonprofit housing company is making 29 brand new hard-to-find affordable studio apartments available to low-income residents, including the chronically homeless, completing a project started around 2020.
Home City Development Inc. is nearing the end of a renovation effort that converted office and recreation space in the basement and first-floor of the former YMCA at 275 Chestnut St. into studio apartments at the six-story building now called Chestnut Crossing.
“We are distributing applications far and wide. These go quick, there is so much need,” said Joesiah Gonzalez, interim executive director of Home City Development.
