Springfield fire caused by appliance malfunction

SPRINGFIELD — Investigators from the Fire Department’s Arson and Bomb Squad ruled a heating appliance malfunction caused a fire in a two-family home over the holidays.

A total of 10 residents were displaced in the fire, which was originally reported at about 1:40 p.m., Monday, at 763 Dickinson St., fire officials said.

There were no injuries in the fire.
