SOUTHWICK — For decades, if a building and its operations were located in an area not zoned for that use, it was allowed to continue as a preexisting non-conforming use as long as its size remained unchanged. The Planning Board wants to revisit that bylaw.
“There should be some discretion for the Planning Board to allow for the basic things,” said Planning Board Chair Michael Doherty during the Select Board meeting Monday night.
Those basic things he was referring to were situations like a request made by Crepes Tea House several years ago build a small addition to its existing building to install a walk-in freezer, which wasn’t allowed by the town’s zoning bylaws.
