Southwick Historical Society proposes placing canal monument along rail trail

SOUTHWICK — The Parks and Recreation Commission gave its blessing to a proposal by the Southwick Historical Society last week to place a granite marker on the rail trail near Congamond Lake to illustrate the route of the former New Haven and Northampton Canal.

“Basically, the idea is that this granite marker will be educational,” said Bob Madison, who wrote “New Haven and Northampton Canal Greenway Bike and Rail Trails: Following the Historic Canal,” during the commission’s meeting.
