Southwick fiber-optic network slow to launch with absent committee members

SOUTHWICK — Since voters approved allocating nearly $3 million to create a fiber optic broadband network, the “moonshot” initiative has been slow to get off the launchpad, but not for lack of effort.

“We’re still trying to put together a committee,” said Select Board Chair Doug Moglin about finding members for the High Speed Internet Subcommittee that was authorized by the board to implement the initiative.

The committee was supposed to have met on June 20, but canceled because there was no quorum. That happened again in July when Moglin couldn’t get a majority of the nine members to show up.
