Southwick commission wants 6 pickleball courts in Whalley Park plan, not 4

SOUTHWICK — While Town Meeting has already approved allocating $208,000 for the construction of four pickleball courts at Whalley Park, the Parks and Recreation Commission is proposing to expand the number of courts by two.

“It going to be more expensive,” said John Whalley III during a recent meeting of the Community Preservation Committee when talking about the plan being developed for the additional courts.

Whalley, who sits on the CPC and the Parks and Recreation Commission, said during the CPC meeting that with the proposal to increase the number of courts by two, a working group of the commission developing the new proposal, wanted to include lights, a pavilion for shade, and better fencing than was included in proposal approved by Town Meeting for the four courts at the park.
