An investigation is underway after a man was found dead inside a crashed vehicle on Route 1 in Topsfield Thursday morning, Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker’s office said in a statement.
Another driver spotted the crashed vehicle on Route 1 at around 7:30 a.m., Tucker’s office said. The unidentified vehicle was believed to be traveling north when it crossed the southbound lane to stop at on the west side of the road in the area of 15 Boston St.
Topsfield firefighters found the driver dead, Tucker’s office said. No other vehicles are believed to be involved.
An investigation into the crash is being led by the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the Topsfield Police Department.
