Sights, sounds from LPGA Pro-Am that featured Bruins defenseman, former goalie & others

NORTON — On Wednesday, TPC Boston hosted the LPGA Pro-Am event that featured both women professional golfers paired with amateur players. There were familiar faces to Boston sports fans on the Norton-based golf course including Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy and former goalie Tuukka Rask.

Former Boston Red Sox player and current broadcaster Lou Merloni also took part in the event, as did Robert Mariano, better known as “Boston Rob” and former New England Patriots linebacker Andre Tippett.

Rask and McAvoy began on Tee 10 and made their way through TPC Boston on a hot, sunny day on the golf course.

McAvoy sunk a nice putt that earned cheers from those sharing the green with him.

The defenseman also had a nice drive to begin hole 17.

Rask didn’t have the same luck as his former teammate trying to make the putt.

But, like McAvoy, had a nice drive on hole 17.

The LPGA continues its week of play on Thursday when it kicks off the inaugural FM Championship. It’s the first time TPC Boston has hosted a professional women’s tournament after hosting 17 PGA Tournaments, and the first time a women’s golf tournament has been played in Massachusetts since 2004.
