The “dangerous” heat and humidity that has blanketed Massachusetts this week will continue on Wednesday, with temperatures in the low 90s and humidity making it feel even warmer.
But forecasters say relief is on the horizon for the Bay State after a seemingly unrelenting stretch of heat and humidity that has prompted the National Weather Service to issue multiple heat advisories.
Before relief arrives though, it will be another sweltering day across all of Massachusetts. In Boston and Springfield, forecasters project a high temperature of 92 degrees. In Worcester, it will be slightly cooler, with a forecasted high of 90 degrees.
Forecasters project a high of 87 degrees for Pittsfield on Wednesday and 85 in Barnstable on Cape Cod.
During Wednesday’s heat advisory, residents are urged to “drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.”
As was the case Monday and Tuesday, the Bay State will see thunderstorms in the afternoon Wednesday, with the storms passing through between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. The storms will move west to east on Wednesday, bringing “strong to damaging” wind gusts with heavy rain as a “secondary threat,” according to the weather service. By the time storms reach the eastern part of the state they will have weakened.
“Hail and tornadoes do not appear to be a threat today,” forecasters wrote.
And while Thursday brings the chance for a break from the heat, relief won’t come until the afternoon.
“Drier air and cooler temps arrive Thursday afternoon,” forecasters wrote, adding “temperatures will be much more comfortable Thursday and Friday with highs in the low to mid 80s, warming into the upper 80s for the weekend.”
“Overnight lows will also stay more comfortable in the low to mid 60s, even some upper 50s, through the weekend,” they added.
Along with the cooler temperatures, Massachusetts will see a brief break from the rain with little chance of precipitation until Tuesday.
