Select Board member Diane Gale questions usefulness of fiber optic network survey

SOUTHWICK – While the survey that is being used to measure town residents’ support for building a town-owned fiber optic cable network is still being conducted, Select Board member Diane Gale is questioning its usefulness.

“I consider this a missed opportunity,” Gale said last week about the survey that will close after the first of the year.

The survey was requested by the Select Board after the High Speed Internet Committee, which has been working over the last year to come up with a proposal to build the network, proposed adding an article to the warrant for May’s Town Meeting that would request the residents to authorize borrowing $15 million to build the network out over the next five years.
