Seekonk High athletic director, longtime teacher dies

Seekonk High School’s athletic director and a longtime teacher, John Moran, died Friday.

“It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of John E. Moran, a cherished member of our community, a beloved athletic director, and an educator for 25 years here in Seekonk,” Superintendent Rebecca Kidwell announced in a message to student families and staff.

Moran was a media specialist at the high school and was involved in youth sports programs for more than 20 years.

“Mr. Moran dedicated his life to inspiring young minds and supporting student-athletes, both on and off the field,” Kidwell said. “His passion for education and deep care for every student left an indelible mark on generations. Whether in the classroom, on the sidelines, or in the halls, he was a bright light, a mentor, and a friend to so many.”

Moran had been battling cancer.

“Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with his family, friends, colleagues, and all whose lives were touched by his legacy,” Kidwell added. “May you find peace and joy in remembering the good times with him. I encourage each of us to take a moment this weekend to reflect on the life and service of John Moran as someone who truly loved Seekonk Schools.”

Information about services and remembrance opportunities will be shared in the future, the superintendent said.
