ARLINGTON, Texas — On Saturday night, Wilyer Abreu got the news he had been dreading for some time when he learned that his grandmother in his native Venezuela had passed away after battling a long illness.
When Abreu reported to the ballpark, he mostly kept the news to himself. In his mind, there was never any doubt that he would play in the Red Sox’ series finale with the Texas Rangers. Doing so would keep his mind focused and the outfielder was determined to play the game in tribute to his grandmother.
