Rte. 6 ramp closed on Cape Cod after rollover spills sand on road, police say

A tractor-trailer truck hauling sand in Sandwich rolled over on a ramp heading to Route 6 on Monday morning, spilling the sand and hydraulic fuel onto the highway and delaying traffic, according to Massachusetts State Police.

As of 9:20 a.m., the ramp was completely closed, according to MassDOT. The lanes reopened by 10:55 a.m., police said.

Just after 7 a.m. on July 31, a tractor-trailer truck with sand as its cargo rolled over on the ramp from Route 130 to Route 6 on the westbound side of the highway, police said.

The truck spilled sand onto the Cape Cod highway, along with hydraulic fluid, police said. One lane of traffic had been getting by just before 9 a.m. as the cleanup was underway, police said, but has since been closed.

The truck was towed from the scene by a heavy duty tow truck, police said.

The driver of the truck, a 49-year-old Brockton man named Jeremy Tonucci, was not injured in the crash, police said.

Tonucci was arrested after the crash for after police found he was violating the state law governing sex offender registration, police said. He was booked at state police barracks and brought to Barnstable District Court for arraignment, police said.

Tonucci is a registered Level 3 sex offender and is required to notify the state’s Sex Offender Registry Board (SORB) of any changes in employment, and police said he had not notified SORB of his employment with P.A. Landers., a construction company based in Hanover.

According to the SORB public website, Tonucci’s Level 3 sex offender registration stems from a 1995 conviction for rape and abuse of a child, and indecent assault and battery on a child under 14.
