Route 125 in Andover is shut down in both directions because of a serious crash, authorities have said.
In a Facebook post, Andover Fire Rescue advised motorists to “avoid Route 125 between Salem Street and Gould Road. Firefighters are on the scene of a serious motor vehicle accident. The road is shut down.”
It was not immediately clear if there were injuries or fatalities.
In an email sent around 4:19 p.m., the state Department of Transportation said the highway was still closed in both directions at Vine Street, NBC-10 in Boston reported.
The road was expected to remain closed for at least 1-2 hours, the station reported, citing MassDOT.
