Reserve your spot soon — Where in Mass. to get Mother’s Day brunch and bubbles

Every year on the second Sunday of May, Americans nationwide spend their days honoring the celebration of individuals who either gave them life, cared for them throughout it, or were examples of how to care and love others.

This year, Americans will celebrate Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 12.

According to the History Channel, the American Mother’s Day tradition was inspired by a woman named Anna Jarvis, who, in an effort to honor her mother, Ann Reeves Jarvis, wanted to recognize the sacrifices mothers made for their children.

After receiving financial support from a Philadelphia store owner in May 1908, Jarvis organized the first official Mother’s Day celebration in the U.S, in a Methodist church in West Virginia.

Thousands of people attended the event, according to the History Channel, and by 1914, President Woodrow Wilson signed a measure officially establishing the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day.

While Jarvis’ idea of the day involved wearing a white carnation “as a badge and visiting one’s mother or attending church services,” children have since taken their own spin on how to honor their mothers on the holiday.

Whether its starting the day with a cup of coffee and French toast, or letting the lady in your life sleep in and grab a glass of champagne later, the Bay State has many options for celebrating Mother’s Day.
