Report: Two teams ‘in the driver’s seat’ to land Davante Adams?

Davante Adams wants a fresh start and there are two teams atop the star wideout’s preferred list — the New Orleans Saints and the New York Jets.

The 31-year-old requested a trade from the 2-3 Las Vegas Raiders and will miss his third straight game Sunday as he deals with a hamstring injury. Both the Jets and the Saints are 2-3 going into Week 6, with the latter having to play without quarterback Derek Carr for a few weeks after he suffered an oblique injury.

Adams is owed $16.89 million this season, and the Raiders have, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, told one team involved that “they don’t plan to front any of the bill.”

“Perhaps negotiations change that, but that has been the perceived stance from Las Vegas. Teams I’ve talked to believe the Saints might just be the favorite, because they are on Adams’ short list of preferred destinations and are willing to be aggressive,” Fowler wrote. “Yes, the Jets are involved. But the Raiders probably will go with the best package. And because Adams seems to prefer going to the Jets or Saints, the Raiders are starting there, knowing they can expand the list if needed. As of now, those two teams appear to be in the driver’s seat.”

Adams has two years remaining on his five-year. $140 million deal, and is due $36.25 million in 2025 and 2026.

It was reported in February that Rodgers was trying to recruit Adams to the Jets. The Raiders, at the time, were said to be in “win-now mode” and had no plans of trading the 31-year-old. Adams was also teammates with Carr when the quarterback was with Las Vegas.

Rodgers and Adams were teammates from 2014 until 2021 and the wideout was one of the quarterback’s go-to players on the field. Adams recorded over 8,000 yards with Rodgers under center.
