The right-handed pitcher had plenty of hype surrounding him before he made his debut with the Nationals 2010. Unfortunately for Strasburg and Washington, he was riddled with injuries throughout his career and limited to just eight starts since 2020.

Strasburg — a three-time All-Star, 2019 World Series champion and 2019 All-MLB First Team select — had one of his best seasons in 2019. He went 18-6 with a 3.32 ERA, 251 strikeouts and 56 walks across 209 innings pitched. The season ended with the Nationals winning the World Series and Strasburg being named the MVP after pitching 8 ⅓ innings in Game 6 with seven strikeouts.

He signed a seven-year extension with the Nationals in 2019, but only pitched 31 ⅓ innings due to injuries. Strasburg recently underwent surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome in 2021, and had Tommy John surgery in 2010. Other injuries included carpal tunnel in his throwing hand, shoulder inflammation and a neck strain.

The 35-year-old was shut down this season due to what Dougherty reported as “severe nerve damage.”

Despite the injuries, Strasburg was still able to establish himself as a frontline pitcher for Washington. He finishes his career with a 113-62 record, a 3.24 ERA and 1,723 strikeouts.
