Report: Longtime ESPN host leaving network for The Athletic to become top NFL insider

After an eight-year run at ESPN, Dianna Russini is moving on.

The New York Post’s Andrew Marchand reported the longtime host will join The Athletic as the network’s top NFL insider.

Russini has been one of ESPN’s main reporters for NFL coverage, often appearing in many of its shows. She began in 2015 as a reporter, contributor and host.

ESPN offered Russini a pay raise in hopes to keep her with the network, The Post reported, but the 40-year-old turned it down in favor of The Athletic where she’ll be contributing the outlet’s video, podcasts as well as write stories for the website.

The New York Times, which owns The Athletic, recently disbanded its sports department, so The Athletic took over its sports coverage.

ESPN, meanwhile, is in the midst of some major layoffs which included Mark Jackson, Jeff Van Gundy, Chris Chelios and Jalen Rose. And even though the worldwide leader in sports has let go of some big names, they were hopeful to keep Russini on board.

It’s unclear when Russini will start at The Athletic.
