Relief from oppressive heat, humidity arrives Friday across Massachusetts

After days of sweltering conditions across Massachusetts, temperatures will finally come down to more seasonable levels on Friday, with highs in the low to mid-80s.

Along with the declining temperatures, dewpoints will drop to the 50s or even 40s, making for far more comfortable humidity levels, National Weather Service forecasters said.

“Overall, a fantastic summer afternoon,” forecasters wrote.

It will remain clear and cool on Friday night, with another day of comfortable heat and humidity on tap on Saturday.

High temperatures on Saturday will reach the low to mid-80s, with humidity levels remaining relatively low for much of the day.

Some showers are possible Saturday night, but Sunday could bring a round of thunderstorms. Locally heavy rainfall is a risk on Sunday, with more moisture in the air leading to greater humidity.

A much cooler airmass moves in for the start of the week, bringing below-normal temperatures for late July. But the heat will return in force by Thursday, when temperatures could reach 90 again.
