ST. LOUIS — For weeks, the Red Sox offense has failed to give the club’s starting pitcher some breathing room. On Sunday, Nick Pivetta could breathe easy.
Boston’s bats came alive on a smoldering day in St. Louis and the Red Sox avoided a series sweep by easily handling the Cardinals, 11-3. Tyler O’Neill and Rafael Devers homered to give Pivetta a cushion during an excellent six-inning appearance and Boston improved to 23-24. The win snapped a four-game losing streak.
