MIAMI — For the Red Sox to firmly establish themselves as buyers before the trade deadline, they’ll need to beat up on the bad teams on their schedule. Tuesday night marked a step toward that goal — and a rare win in a series opener.
Behind a strong start from Kutter Crawford and an early three-run homer from Ceddanne Rafaela, the Sox opened July with an 8-3 win over the lowly Marlins at loanDepot Park. Boston jumped out to an early lead and cruised behind six easy innings from Crawford, winning just their 10th series opener in 28 tries. With their second win in a row, the Sox improved to 45-39.
