WORCESTER — Triston Casas has started the final step of his rehab process as he works his way back from the torn cartilage in his ribcage that has cost him more than three months of his second full major league season. But that doesn’t necessarily mean his return to the Red Sox lineup is imminent.
Casas, who had the day off Friday but worked out at Polar Park after playing two rehab games at Triple-A Worcester earlier in the week, mapped out the next steps for his comeback effort. He’ll be the designated hitter Saturday before playing first base again Sunday before traveling to Syracuse with the team for a six-game series that begins Tuesday. In western New York, he’ll aim to play three days in a row, a major hurdle the Red Sox want him to overcome before activating him. Casas believes he’ll do that on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. WooSox manager Chad Tracy believes the first baseman will be in the minors through the end of next week.
