He signed for only $7,500 after the Red Sox drafted him in the 10th round out of Oral Roberts last June.

He throws a four-seam fastball, changeup, slider and cutter. His fastball is in the upper-80s and low-90s.

Other strong Red Sox minor league performances from Wednesday:

~ John Schreiber appeared in a rehab game for Portland. He pitched a perfect inning and recorded one strikeout. He likely will pitch again for the Sea Dogs on Thursday as the Red Sox want him to pitch on back-to-back days before activating him. Schreiber (right teres major strain) is on the 60-day IL retroactive to May 16.

~ Shortstop Marcelo Mayer, outfielder Corey Rosier and catcher Nathan Hickey each had two hits for Portland.

The 23-year-old Rosier, who was acquired in the Eric Hosmer trade at last year’s deadline, is slashing .313/.366/.493/.859 with 30 steals and 25 extra-base hits in 64 games for Portland. MassLive profiled him in April.

Hickey, a 23-year-old who Boston drafted in the fifth round in 2021, has a .279/.363/.524/.887 line with 10 homers and six doubles in 41 games since the Red Sox promoted him to Portland.

~ Bradley Blalock, a 22-year-old right-handed pitching prospect who returned in May after undergoing Tommy John surgery March 2, 2022, allowed two runs in 5 ⅓ innings for Greenville in a 7-2 win over Asheville. He gave up five hits and one walk while striking out four.

Blalock has a 2.51 ERA in nine starts between Low-A Salem and Greenville combined. He has a 3.24 ERA in his five starts since his promotion to Greenville. He has been up to 99 mph with his fastball this season. Blalock added a split-change in the offseason, the type Kevin Gausman throws.

~ Alexis Hernandez, a 20-year-old outfielder/first baseman the Red Sox signed out of Venezuela in 2019, went 2-for-4 with a solo homer, two RBIs, one walk and two strikeouts in Low-A Salem’s 6-4 win over Down East. He’s slashing .279/.405/.426/.831 with two homers, four doubles, 12 RBIs, 15 walks, 13 strikeouts and five steals in 21 games for Salem.

~ Ceddanne Rafaela went 3-for-5 with a double and four RBIs for Triple-A Worcester. He’s slashing .294/.342/.574/.916 with five homers, four doubles, 11 runs, 14 RBIs, one walk and 18 strikeouts in 165 games since being promoted to Worcester.

~ Stephen Scott and Ronaldo Hernández each had two hits for Worcester. Meanwhile, Bobby Dalbec helped turn a double play in the WooSox’s 11-5 win over Scranton/Wilkes Barre.
